Training vs. Testing

Already know the craft? You may not need a class.

Training helps you learn and prepare. An NCCER assessment measures your existing knowledge or hands-on skill. If an employer told you to “get your NCCER,” make sure you know which one they mean before registering.

I Need Training

Choose a class when you need instruction, review, practice or help preparing for the assessment.

  • Instructor-led lessons
  • Hands-on practice
  • Help with math and difficult topics
  • Preparation before testing

I Only Need an Assessment

If you already have the experience and only need to document your knowledge or skill, schedule the assessment instead of paying for a full training class.

  • Written craft assessments
  • English and Spanish options for many crafts
  • Hands-on practicals when available
  • Retesting by appointment

Questions Before You Sign Up

Make sure you choose the right next step.

These are the questions students most often have before registering.

Which rigging class should I take?

Basic Rigger is a starting point for newer workers. Advanced Rigger Prep is designed for workers preparing for advanced-level assessments. If an employer gave you a specific requirement, call before registering so you choose the correct level.

Are training and NCCER certification the same thing?

No. Training helps you learn and prepare. NCCER certification or credentials require completion of the applicable NCCER assessment process.

Do you offer Zoom classes?

Yes, select classes are available by live Zoom. Required hands-on training and assessments still have to be completed in person when applicable.

What happens if financing did not approve me?

Call or text 361-600-8957. You may be able to use an interest-free weekly payment plan directly through Rig Right Texas.

Do I need a diploma or GED?

A diploma or GED is not required to enroll in the courses listed on this page. Identification or NCCER requirements may still apply for testing.

How do I reserve a class spot?

Use the deposit button for the class you want. You can also call or text 361-600-8957 if you want an advisor to confirm the class, date or payment option before you pay.
