Explore day-to-day responsibilities, the training path and real job searches. Job requirements vary by employer.
What you may do at work
- Stage conduit, cable, fittings and tools
- Prepare materials and supports
- Assist licensed electricians with work allowed under your own license or an applicable exemption
- Follow jobsite procedures and maintain clean work areas
Electrical helper positions vary: unlicensed work cannot include regulated electrical work unless an exemption applies. For electrical installation work, obtain the appropriate Texas apprentice electrician license and work under required supervision.
Do you need an electrician license?
You do not need a journeyman or master electrician license to seek helper work. However, Texas generally requires an appropriate license for regulated electrical work. We help students apply for their apprentice electrician license.
